CCTV coverage has ‘improved’

Councillors have said improvements have been made to the way CCTV is monitored, but more could be done.

Coun Ingrid Sheard was among those who recently visited the control room in Boston where the cameras are observed.

It followed a previous visit in 2022.

“I’m very encouraged by the improvement,” she told the Spalding Town Forum last week.

She highlighted that one of the improvements was that whoever was responsible for monitoring the CCTV in Boston and South Holland was also responsible for letting people into the control room.

That’s now been changed so those in the room can release the door via a button, she told the meeting.

“It’s clear the monitoring has improved, unfortunately it still relies on a police force that has adequate resources and funding to give a swift response.

“That’s something that still needs to have improvement.

“I think the staffing levels could still be improved further and they have a really good spread of knowledge of the area they’re covering.”

Coun Rob Gibson told the meeting he was impressed by the clarity of the cameras.

“You could zoom in from the camera in the Sheep Market and read a registration plate in the Victoria Street car park,” he said. “I thought that was pretty good.
