Carpenter Ben up for award

A Spalding apprentice is in the semi-finals for a national award.

Ben Norton (17), who is studying for level 2 in site carpentry, is in the final 30 for the Screwfix Trade Apprentice 2022 competition.

He said: “Being one step closer to the final is exciting and I will put my all into demonstrating my skills, commitment, and passion for the trade to help me get through to the final.

“To be crowned Trade Apprentice 2022 would be an incredible accolade that would help me realise my potential and help me to pursue my dream of becoming a professional tradesperson.

“Where some tradespeople may look to complete a job to simply just move onto the next, I am always striving to learn as much from a job as possible, in the hope I can exceed people’s expectations of my work.”

A Screwfix spokesman said: “Ben was shortlisted due to the passion, dedication, and ambition which shone through in the application.

“He is regularly looking at different techniques or tools he can use to improve ways of working. He also has a passion for woodcarving, in particular whittling, showing a desire to bring fresh skills to the industry.”
