A care home says it’s confident it has improved after being told to do so across the board by inspectors.
Gosberton House Care Home in Westhorpe Road has been rated as ‘requires improvement’ in every category following an inspection by the Care Quality Group in October.
The report, which was published last month, states: “The provider was failing to provide people with consistently safe, effective, caring, responsive or well-led care.
“The provider had failed to organise staffing resources safely and effectively to meet people’s needs and preferences.
“The management of people’s medicines was not consistently safe.”
A lack of staff was noted as a reason for the need to improve with the report mentioning one person had been left in ‘soiled incontinence for almost an hour’ due to nurses being unavailable.
The report did though praise staff for ensuring patients had support and encouraged independent living.
The home had been rated ‘good’ overall on its previous inspection in 2017.
It was rated ‘outstanding’ in caring during that inspection but now ‘requires improvement’.
The most recent report says: “The provider’s website stated: ‘Respect for the privacy and dignity of our residents is at the heart of everything we do at Gosberton House and is something all of our staff fully subscribe to.’
“However, despite this clear commitment to respecting people’s dignity, during our inspection we heard staff describing the people who lived in the home in very insensitive, institutional terms.
“For example, between themselves, some staff called people who had specific nutritional needs, ‘purees’ or ‘softs’.”
Gordon Lee, a partner for Gosberton House Care Home, said: “The CQC report, while disappointing at the time, was carried out three months ago and we have already put in place the issues identified and are confident that we are back to our previous high standard.”
