Cancer survivor’s fundraiser

A Whaplode Drove man who beat prostate cancer 12 years ago has said thank you by raising £1,200 for charity.

David Barfoot (76) is well known in football circles having been the chair of the GCE Peterborough and District Football League for the last three years.
That’s the maximum you’re allowed to be in the role, so for his final 12 months in the position he decided to fundraise.
After staff at Peterborough Hospital helped save his life with 38 radiotherapy sessions to neutralise two cancers, he wanted to say thank you back.
David passed buckets round at both Peterborough League cup games and also with events at The Elizabethan Centre in Whaplode Drove which he is also on the board of.
Now the year is over he’s raised £1,200 which was celebrated with an event at the centre.
“I’m very proud,” said David, who is still volunteering with the league. “A huge thank you to everyone who donated including league sponsors GCE.”
