Cancer charity hands out £53,000 at event

A Crowland charity celebrated its 25th anniversary by handing out more than £53,000 to good causes.

The money was dished out at Crowland Cancer Fund’s annual presentation evening, at which supporters enjoyed a cheese and wine supper and the cutting of an anniversary cake.

Chairman Frank Barrett announced the donations:

  • £3,500 for the Teenage Cancer Trust to provide TV sports channel for the ward at Addenbrookes Hospital.
  • £8,000 to St Barnabas Hospice to enable them to continue to offer care at home.
  • £8,000 to Marie Curie Cancer Care to enable them to be able to continue with home nursing.
  • £33,500 for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice towards the new hospice which is being built.

Crowland Cancer Fund is a purely volunteer-run charity operating a shop in East Street, Crowland, selling a variety of bric a brac, curtains and household linen, books, bags and sundries (but not clothing) and a warehouse on Crease Drove selling furniture white goods and electricals (all tested). It also has a van and is able to collect donations and deliver larger heavy purchases.

Mr Barrett said: “Crowland Cancer Fund is grateful to those who donate items and to those who visit our premises to spend their money. Without you we are nothing.”
