Calm Division One leaders Tulips B move further ahead

Title-chasing Tulips B don’t look to be feeling any pressure in Spalding and District Snooker League Division One after moving ten points clear last Thursday night.

The Spalding side picked up a 5-1 win at Services E to remain in firm control at the summit, with Darren Woodberry (O28), Mark Woodberry (O35), Ady Sibley (R7) and Martin Deacon (O7) all victorious.

With second-placed Donington C not in action, Services A missed the chance to climb above them as they slumped to a 5-1 loss at Holbeach D. Mike Knight (O14) was their sole winner, making a cool 22 clearance in the process.

The win leaves Holbeach just seven points off second, while Services are 14 points off top spot.

At the wrong end of the table, basement boys Crowland C are starting to look doomed after being handed a 6-0 reverse by Boundary B. Steve Oakes (O21) shone for the Deepings side with a 32 break.

It’s tight at the top in Division Two after the three title hopefuls all won.

Leaders Consti B are three ahead after a battling 4-2 victory over Pyramid C.

A 32 break from Mick Johnson (O35) was their highlight, but John Keeton (O7) grabbed the all-important final frame.

Second-placed Bourne SC A edged a point closer to them after dispatching Crowland B 5-1. A 46 break from Mark Gray (O98) and Ian Clare’s (O14) 22 clearance helped them on their way.

Boundary A are a further five points back after they beat Holbeach B 5-1.

At the foot, rock-bottom Services B gave themselves a lifeline with a 4-2 triumph at Crowland A. Tim Nash (O21) made a 31 break in that one.

Down in Division Three, struggling Long Sutton C pulled off the shock of the night as they upset leaders Gosberton C 4-2.

Susan Lefley (R14), Mark Dennis (R7) and, crucially, David Lefley (scr) picked up the frame wins for Sutton.

Services D took advantage, beating Gosberton C 4-2 to close the gap to just a point.

Third-placed Boundary C also saw off Pyramid E 4-2 to keep their title tilt going.

  • Spalding and District Billiards League leaders Donington slipped to a rare loss on Monday night as Holbeach A prevailed 5-2.

A 62 break from Hugh Pinner (O170) and a 41 from Jim Thompson (R30) lit up the clash.

Elsewhere, Mick Johnson’s (O170) 46 break helped Consti B defeat Crowland A 5-2 and a fine 33 break from Maurice Phillipson (R70) couldn’t stop Pyramid B losing 7-0 against Consti A.
