A Gedney woman whose mum, step-dad and sister were killed by a drug driver out on parole has launched a campaign calling for reform.
Summer Mace already has nearly 10,000 signatures for her petition, ‘Justice for Lisa Carter, Paul Carter and Jade Mace’.
All three were killed on Sunday, January 15 when a BMW driven by Aurelijus Cielevicius at 96mph on the wrong side of the road collided with their car near King’s Lynn.
Toxicology results, taken following the collision, read out at the plea hearing, found methylamphetamine, mephedrone and cannabis in his system as well as other drugs.
He was jailed for ten and a half years.
Summer says he could be out in seven years and appealed to the courts to have it extended. However it was turned down by the Court of Appeal.
Now Summer is calling for the appeal case to be reopened and for an automatic life imprisonment sentence be imposed for death by dangerous driving.
She would also like all people on curfews to be electronically tagged and for consecutive sentences be more commonly handed out rather than concurrent ones.
Concurrent jail sentences are served at the same time as one another, while consecutive means a prisoner has to serve the time for each offence they have been convicted for.
Summer said: “He killed my beautiful family instantly and somehow got out with hardly a scratch.
“My family were given a life sentence the day that man killed my loved ones. A life sentence that I will never be released from.
“He killed our future lives, thoughts and hopes – as we have none without them. The only thing that we can do for Lisa Carter, Paul Carter, and Jade Mace now is try to make a change!
“The law needs changing, the ‘justice’ system needs to actually produce justice and the victims need to be considered.
“I will never get my family back, but I will do everything that I can to help make a change to prevent any other families experiencing the nightmare that both myself and my family have experienced, as well as continuing to fight for actual justice for my family.”
