Business owner is fed-up with flood

A Whaplode garage owner says he’s fed up of having to clean out drains, flooding from which he says is putting people off visiting his business.

Mahmoud Ahmed runs the Gulf garage on High Road and says he’s fed up of flooding outside the property.
He believes the drain cover wasn’t put down properly during recent resurfacing and Tarmac has got in, making it smaller and creating a large pool of water where vehicles and pedestrians are meant to enter the business (pictured right).
“I’ve reported it on Fix My Street about three times,” said Mahmoud, who has been running the business for 24 years.
“It floods pretty much every time it rains now.
“With there being another business on the other side of the road, you can see why people wouldn’t want to come in to my business after it rains.
“I’ve gone out myself several times to try and unblock it. It’s having a bad effect on the road surface too.”
Richard Fenwick, head of highways asset at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “Our initial investigation at the time couldn’t turn up any part of the drainage system we are responsible for being broken or not operating properly.”
He added investigations would continue and said there had been a large amount of rain in a short time, which even well-maintained drains may have struggled to deal with.
