Burgess victory for Harman

Younger members of Spalding Town Tennis Club had the chance to shine at the annual Mary Burgess Cup.

The competition, for junior players aged 11 and under gave them chance to showcase what they have been working on with the club’s coaching team, led by LTA level three coach Enoch Annan.
It all came down to a great final in which Zach Harman and Jayden Nightingale battled it out to become this year’s winner. It was Harman who managed to claim the trophy with a 12-8 win.
Players and parents celebrated with cake to mark an enjoyable morning.
The cup is named after Mary Burgess for her long-time dedication to the club, where she is an honorary lifetime member. Unfortunately she was unable to attend this year.
The club are hosting summer camps at their Holyrood Walk base for mini and junior players.
The minis are tomorrow, Friday, August 2, and next Friday, August 9, for ages five-nine and run in two sessions – 10-11.30am and 11.30am-1pm. The cost is £6 and includes a drink and biscuit snack.
For those aged 10-16, junior camps are being held on Thursdays, August 8 and 15, 10am-1pm. The cost is £8 for 90 minutes or £12 for three hours. Players should take their own snacks and drinks.
The camps offer fun activities and tennis skills
