Ian Dunn is toasting a top week at Pinchbeck United after sealing deals for two top transfer targets.
The player/boss, who watched on as his side defeated fierce ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division rivals Moulton Harrox 2-1 on Saturday (see page 36), has snapped up central defender Elliot Pogson and keeper Sam Vince.
Pogson arrives from Wyberton, where he has spent most of his adult career, and inked forms on Tuesday afternoon.
Vince, formerly of Boston United, joins on dual forms from Spalding United and will go straight into Saturday’s squad against Wisbech Town Reserves at Knight Street (2pm).
A delighted Dunn said: “Poggy played alongside Jack Smith at Wyberton and we’re pleased to have them both here now.
“As far as I know, he’s only ever played for them – so it’ll perhaps be a good challenge for him.
“We’re really happy to sign Sam too, he’s played at a high standard and we appreciate Spalding United letting us register him.”
On the win over Moulton, Dunn added: “It’s a big three points for us against one of our rivals – but I don’t think it’ll have a knock-on effect for our season.
“I think we deserved to win the game because we took our chances and they didn’t. Yes, they should have been two or three up at half time. But they didn’t score– and if
I’m honest, barring one chance, they only hurt us from set-pieces.
“We looked shaky defending their corners, free kicks and throws in the first half, but we looked much better than them in the second half.
“We defended poorly in the first half and allowed them chances and they should have scored a few.
“I’m sure Moulton will feel that they deserved to win the game because of their chances, but I’d have to disagree.
“We’ve got games in hand on a few sides, but we’re essentially in the mix now. Beating one of the top four sides – which is what I feel Moulton are – is great for us. We’ve taken four points from one of our rivals and have to be happy with that.”
