Bringing history to life for visitors

Augmented Reality came to Spalding with the official launch of a new project at the weekend.

A joint event between Transported Arts and Spalding Gentlemen’s Society Museum saw the new ARTeFACT Trail come to life.
By downloading an app to a mobile phone, the new artworks around town come to life as you look at them.
The launch on Saturday also saw visitors to the museum able to collect leaflets about the new initiative.
On Saturday (22) there’s an invitation to join artist Emily Cartwright on a Riverside Sketchcrawl.
The free event, at Double Street Green, will include sketching tasks which focus on nature and architecture and each session lasts around 90 minutes.
Places must be booked for the event and all the details are on the Transported website at www.transportedart.com
And next Tuesday (25) will see a huge doodle wall appear in Spalding Market Place which people are being encouraged to add to. Booking is not required for this event.
Both events are under the Spalding Reconnected: Historic Town & Riverside banner. The new project celebrates and promotes the history of the town and the riverside.
The community arts initiative is a partnership of several organisations, including the district and county council.
Trails, waymarkers and projects with local school are all part of the project which aims to bring the history and heritage of Spalding to life. It was awarded almost £250,000 of National Lottery Heritage Find money and the project is set to last until next April.
