Reigning Division One champions Brennans Sports succumbed to their third-straight defeat in the Spalding and South Holland Voice six-a-side League on a snowy Monday night in Surfleet.
There was no such trouble for Polishborough and Simple FC, though, as they kept up their 100 per cent records in their respective divisions.
However, credit must to all teams, players and officials for battling through in what were incredibly difficult conditions at Glen Park.
Division One got under way in explosive fashion as Ultra D made it four wins on the bounce against a downtrodden and subjugated Brennans Sports.
Third-placed Ultra D managed to put more daylight between themselves and the chasing pack with this impressive result.
Much like the snow they settled into a quick pattern and found themselves with a comfortable lead well before the half-way stage.
Declan Earth secured the man-of-the-match (MOTM) award in this game with an impressive work rate.
Old Boys Coaches then beat Wet Dream Team 6-2 in an engrossing tie. On a night when the goal tally was down, this was an attacking master-class from a Coaches side with the highest combined age on the league.
They proved that with age comes all-round ability and organisation as they snatched their third-straight win. Nigel Steadman was given MOTM by referee Andy Rudd after impressing with his ability.
The next game saw You’ve Got No Fans held to a 3-3 draw by Posh Old Boys, thanks to a MOTM performance by Simon Black, who performed miracles in the Posh goal.
The point keeps Posh Old Boys hanging above the drop-zone and makes YGNF’s mid-table position look a bit healthier.
Pinchbeck United and EPH Allstars then matched up in a relegation showdown. EPH managed to grab the vital 2-1 win which sees them leapfrog Pinchbeck and go level on points with Posh OB.
EPH collected themselves well in the flurry and will be delighted with their overall performance as well as the result. They actually moved the ball better than many of their higher-ranked rivals on their way to this victory.
Adam Watson was MOTM in this one.
Next up was an impressive show from Baltic United, who brought the Eastern European winter with them and took the win away as they beat fourth-placed Notinmymums Forest 3-0. Andris Bundulis managed to secure his second MOTM prize of the season as his Baltic side glided to another easy win.
The final game in the top tier saw Polishborough maintain their 100 per cent record as they trounced Univeg 4-1 to make it seven wins from as many games.
Univeg, playing with guest player and secondary league manager Dom Mason in goal, never really managed to light up the show as Polishborough dominated from the off.
Dawid Iwaniel picked up MOTM as the Poles showed their extra class.
Division Two kicked off with Borrussia Teeth’s sixth loss from seven games. They stay bottom following a 5-0 defeat against the delighted Goaldiggers.
MOTM Ryan Mills and the Goaldiggers made light-work of the struggling Borrussia side, who are struggling for a familiar-looking squad.
It was a much-appreciated win and a boost for the goal difference for Goaldiggers, who now sit joint-third.
Game two saw high-flying Evolution return to winning ways with a 3-1 win over Tekkerslovakia.
Jamie Wroniak in the Tekkers goal was kept on his toes as Evolution peppered his defence with attacks as they bounced back from their defeat last week in impressive style. Rudi Duzda was MOTM.
The next clash saw Le Saux Solid crew continue to improve dramatically on their early season form with a convincing 6-1 win over a gobsmacked The TBME.
Before this game both sides were on an unbeaten run – but the snowy surface didn’t suit The TBME’s pass-and-move style of football and led to them suffering their heaviest defeat since joining the league.
For the Le Saux boys this latest win catapults them into sixth place and makes it a very impressive four in a row. Jordan Graham was MOTM.
Leaders Simple FC then made it seven wins from seven as they turned over their latest challengers, Mail Carters, in a 5-1 thumping.
The game was slightly understated following an injury to Carters goalkeeper Dave Nixon and then a second injury to stand-in keeper Ben Goddard.
Defender Lee Copland stepped up to the gloves but by then the disjointed Carters side couldn’t deal with the pace, talent, form and ability of the unremitting Simple side, who keep a two-point gap over chasing Evolution.
Carl Jones grabbed his third MOTM of the season.
The penultimate clash saw Balotellitubbies pick up their second win of the season in a surprise win over Dynamo Kiev, who have now suffered five straight defeats.
Dynamo captain Zack Lucas was missing due to illness and his side missed his vocal organisation and defensive ability as Balo’ bagged a winner late on.
Matthew Crowley given MOTM.
The final game saw BK’s Athletic take a stroll in Glen Park with a comfortable 7-0 win over Sarah’s Boys.
Dan Dougill was again on fire as he melted the snow with his electric pace, talent and organisation to be MOTM.
