Brenda’s big birthday

The oldest person in Lincolnshire and 25th oldest in the UK celebrated her 109th birthday in the home where she was born.

Brenda Carrott’s grandmother Elizabeth, who worked as a midwife, delivered her at the Moulton Chapel house bought by her dad Thomas before he died in World War One.

On Tuesday (October 7), 109 years later, video calling her grandchildren and great grandchildren in America was among the ways she celebrated.

Other friends visited her, son Peter and his wife Claudia who flew over from California to help celebrate.

After being raised by her mum Betsy, Brenda worked as a dress maker at both Berrrills and Russell Alan’s stores in Spalding.

“I shouldn’t want to do it now,” she said.

When asked what the secret to a long life is, Brenda says to ‘eat well’ and have ‘no worries’.

“Worries don’t get you anywhere.

“You have to keep active, though I don’t do much now.”

Peter said: “Mum’s always been active, rode a bike into her 90s and was still going up stairs until quite recently.

“She’s never worried and always has a positive attitude.”
