A young boy left injured after an incident involving a double decker bus in Spalding last night is back recovering at home, his headteacher has said while thanking the emergency services.
Police said the pupil at Spalding Academy suffered ‘serious’ injuries following the incident at 3.25pm on Halmer Gate and had been taken to Peterborough City Hospital.
Mrs Lucy Conley the SLAT Executive Headteacher of Spalding Academy says they hope the young man “will hopefully be back in school very soon.
In a statement she said: “I can confirm that one of our Year Eight students was involved in a road traffic accident on Tuesday June 29.
“This incident took place in the afternoon at the end of school.
“I understand that this student is now at home recovering and will hopefully be back in school very soon, to complete the school term.
“There were several members of school staff at Halmer Gate to respond when this incident happened, all of whom were able to assist and support.
“We would like to thank the tremendous job of the emergency services who were prompt to respond. The school is obviously working to support the family and we are in regular contact with them.
“We will be giving ongoing support to this Year 8 student and the family, including on their return to school and our thoughts and best wishes are with the student and the family at this time during this period of recovery.”
A spokesman for East Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 3.28pm on 29 June to Halmer Gate in Spalding.
“The caller reported that there had been a road traffic collision. We sent a LIVES community first responder, a paramedic in a fast response car and a double-crewed ambulance.
“The air ambulance was also in attendance. One patient was taken to Peterborough City Hospital via double-crewed ambulance.”
