Boy (16) on trial for Holbeach attempted murder

A 16-year-old boy has gone on trial accused of attempting to murder another 16-year-old boy in Holbeach.

The youth, who can not be named, is alleged to have tried to kill the other teenager on a piece of land adjacent to the William Stukeley primary school.

Jurors at Lincoln Crown Court heard the defendant made a Facetime video call to a teenage girl during the early hours of July 28 in which the victim could be seen lying unconcious on the ground from alcohol while the other youth could be seen holding an unbroken beer bottle.

It is alleged the defendant had already made a threat to slit the other teenager’s throat and told the teenage girl “his future is in your hands.”

A short time later at 1.22am it is alleged the girl received a message which read “it’s on you.”

Stuart Lody, prosecuting, said police who arrived at the scene heard a noise which sounded like the howl of a dog.

“They saw a body lying next to a hedge,” Mr Lody told the court. “The body was laying face down and a scooter had been placed on top.”

Mr Lody said the officers saw blood and were so concerned that they placed the victim into the recovery position.

An ambulance attended and the victim was taken to Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre where he was placed in an induced coma.

Mr Lody said it was the prosecution case that this “was an attempted murder,” telling jurors the victim suffered wounds to his throat and chest, and was then left for dead.

The youth, who cannot be named because of his age, denies a charge of attempted murder on July 28 last year.

He also denies a second charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm on the same date.

The trial judge, Judge Simon Hirst explained to the jury: “Your job is to decide if the defendant is guilty or not guilty of the charges that have been read out to you.”

Jurors heard the teenager has already pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of unlawful wounding.

“He has accepted he was the person who carried out the attack and he has accepted he wounded the victim,” Mr Lody explained.

Jurors heard they would have to decide the state of the defendant’s mind during that night.

Mr Lody told jurors they would be hearing evidence from witnesses who recalled the defendant “ranting and raving,” and talking to a person called “Adrian” who was someone in his head.

The trial continues. It is expected to last five days
