Boxing clever for local charities

Former world champion Amir Khan was the star turn alongside a host of talented young boxers as Spalding’s annual Boxing Night at Springfields again proved a knockout success.

In its 26th year, the Spalding and District Round Table event saw thousands of pounds raised for local charities.

Attendees witnessed eight fantastic bouts of boxing on the night with the home Police Boxing Club winning five bouts to four of the challengers on the night.

Guests were treated to a three-course meal alongside a question and answer session with the former light-welterweight boxing world champion and Olympian Amir Khan.

Round Table member and XO owner Matt Clarke said: “As yet we have not gathered the total receipts form all income from this night, but we are very grateful to the generosity and expect to again have a good sum that will in turn be donated to local projects and good causes.

“There have been numerous positive feedback on it, especially in relation to our celebrity Amir Khan. Amir spent longer at the event and indeed the after party at XO than contracted, which only goes to show that he enjoyed his time with us too!

“It was great this year to also welcome some youth to the ring and enjoy a fight including the local boxing club who we have donated £1 from each attendee to again.”
