Bourne to beat the wind

Five riders from Spalding Cycling Club faced a tough test against the clock at the Bourne Wheelers Open 10 Mile Time Trial.

Cold and blustery conditions, with strong winds, were not conducive to high speeds but Dominic Righini-Brand led the way for Spalding with an excellent time of 22 minutes 24 seconds.

He was narrowly ahead of Matthew Chappell, who also produced a strong performance of 22:27.

Evgeniya Righini-Brand battled well through the challenging conditions to record 26:15, while Simon Wright completed the course in 26:49 but Jacob Booth failed to finish.

Elsewhere, Kieran Buffham and Nigel Swepson were at Burghley House for the Multisport Weekend, competing in the British Standard Distance Duathlon Championships.

Buffham ran a 10K personal best time and came 20th of 153 finishers.

Swepson was 40 seconds behind him, in 2:10:52, and 23rd overall.
