Boss Hayes vows to keep shuffling his Holbeach United pack

Holbeach United boss Seb Hayes admits that he’s still looking for the right blend in a bid to get his side’s title tilt back on track.

The title-chasing Tigers are in need of ChromaSport UCL Premier Division wins at Cogenhoe United on Saturday (3pm) and Peterborough Northern Star on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

Hayes, who serves the final game of his stadium ban at Compton Park this weekend, has vowed to keep tinkering with the line-up as he attempts to find a winning formula.

The Tigers are fifth in the standings ahead of the clashes and unbeaten in five matches, but have flattered to deceive during that time.

Hayes has dropped star men Lewis Leckie and Mitch Griffiths in recent weeks, but has been impressed with how both has responded – an example he hopes others will follow.

“We’ve simply got to start performing,” said the Holbeach chief. “While we’re still in with a chance of winning the title, I’ll keep rotating to try and find a winning team.

“We need to get that belief back. Earlier in the season we were beating teams by scoring quickly in spells, now we’ve just stopped scoring when we’re on top of games.

“People may question the logic of making so many changes. But Leckie responded with a goal and hopefully that’ll get him firing again. If it does, it’ll be massive for us.

“I’ve also been massively impressed with Mitch’s response to being dropped. He’s a key player for us and we need him playing if we want to be successful.”

Hayes hopes to have Blackstones midfielder Danny Barker available this weekend after agreeing a deal for him. Forms haven’t been signed, but that’s expected to be a formality.

Charley Sanders (hamstring) and Matt Warfield (banned) do miss out, though.

The Tigers boss knows his side face a tough task at Cogenhoe – especially after the reverse clash between the two was abandoned with Holbeach 2-0 down – but does have a decent personal record there.

He added: “I’ve only ever lost once there, but I’ve always had to work hard for every victory and it’s only ever by the odd goal.

“We expect they’ll have a point to prove after the last time we met. I’d use it in my team talk if I were them, so we’ll be ready for that.”
