Fuming Long Sutton boss Matt Cawthorn has labelled his side’s start to the new Peterborough League Division One season as ’embarrassing.‘
The Magpies have picked up just one point from their opening four league games.
And, after seeing his side slump to a 6-4 away defeat at newly-promoted Peterborough Polonia on Saturday, Cawthorn pulled no punches with his early season assessment.
He said: “It’s disappointing because on paper it’s the best squad Sutton have had for about five years.
“Me and Billy (Radeloff, joint manager) thought we had got it about right in terms of personnel.
“To say we’re both really disappointed is an understatement.
“One point from four games doesn’t look good and, as a team and a club, it’s embarrassing – something has to change fast.”
Saturday’s setback means Long Sutton have now conceded 15 goals in their opening four games.
Cawthorn added: “Saturday’s game was one we should really have been picking up three points from and you’d expect to do that if you go away and score four goals.
“They were sloppy goals to concede, but it’s a team game and we had chances to score another three or four goals so it could have been 6-6.”
