Boss Bobby disappointed by Moulton Harrox’s uncharacteristic collapse at Oakham

Oakham United 4 Moulton Harrox 2

Bemused Bobby Patterson was at a loss to explain Moulton Harrox’s second-half capitulation as they crashed 4-2 at Oakham United on Saturday.

Moulton looked to be cruising to victory in the first half of the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division clash after goals from the in-form Declan Earth and young gun Alfie Woodward put them 2-0 to the good.

Hosts Oakham, who are bossed by former Holbeach United chief Seb Hayes, pulled a goal back with their first shot of the match just before the break though – and that triggered a Harrox collapse.

Three more goals followed in the second half, leaving co-boss Patterson to accuse his side of something very ‘un-Moulton’ – throwing in the towel.

“We were 2-0 up and in complete control of the game,” said the veteran defender. “To be honest, it was more a question of how many goals we’d score.

“But they got one back in the 43rd minute and made things a lot closer than they should have been at half time.

“Then we just totally collapsed in the second half.

“Massive credit to Oakham, but I have to look at my team and say we threw in the towel. That’s not something Moulton sides have been associated with over the years.

“Once it was 2-2 we lost all discipline and let them have three points.

“I’m a bit lost for words, so all I’ll say is that I’m very, very disappointed.”

Harrox visit Leverington Sports on Saturday (2pm).

They have also been drawn at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway in the next round of the Lincs FA Junior Cup.

Harrox: Taylor, Clay, Coddington, Chappell, Woodward, Machin, Smith, Townsend, Law, Ford, Earth. Subs used: Bradbury, Kisla.
