Borrett eases to big Tydd Gote Angling Club victory with fish in limited supply

There was a change of venue for Tydd Gote Angling Club’s Sunday match, with the competitors finding their way to the Raisen’s Bridge section where summer weights had been consistently good.

But the cold and windy weather and clear water didn’t encourage the fish to feed and it was just the odd bonus fish and small roach and skimmers that could be tempted.

Well out in front from favoured peg five was Steve Borrett with two tench to worm and some silvers to pinkie for 9lb 8oz.

But Borrett left it late, with both tench coming in the last half hour from his 8m worm line.

Andy Toogood was second from peg six (the other side of the pylons), taking a big skimmer and silvers on pinkie over groundbait to finish on 3lb 12oz.
Weights then plummeted, with Dave Simmonds third on peg four with 14oz and Andrew Kilby fourth with 12oz on peg 14.

Wednesday Open (Black Dyke): 1st=Archie Greenwood & Pete Emery 6lb 3oz; 3rd Ian Benton 4lb 1oz.

  • The latest Holbeach and District Angling Club match was held at Cement Bridge on Sunday.

Winning, with a net of 3lb 5oz of rudd and perch, was Jason Thrower from peg 12,

Second was Andy Wilson with 2lb 7oz from end peg 15, while Alan Smith (1lb 11.5oz from peg 11) completed the top three.
