A summer of free activities for families at Spalding Library is launching this Saturday (July 5).

Story Garden – Adventures in Nature and the Great Outdoors’ is the theme for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.

A special launch event is at the library on Saturday where you can make your own magazine from 10am to 12noon.

Other sessions include sessions on Thursdays from 10am to 2pm including a kite and windmill workshop (July 24), making suncatchers and cheery sunflowers (July 31), creating a Venus fly trap, cress caterpillars (August 7), making mini-gardens and painting pebbles for Garden Week on August 14, a puppet creepy crawly and dragonflies for Bug Week on August 21 and a parrot and bird’s nest for Bird Week on August 28.

A celebration party will be held at the library to round off the summer on Saturday, September 20 from 10am to 12 noon.

Amanda Reynolds, library manager at Spalding Library, said: “We have so many fabulous and free Summer Reading Challenge events and activities planned this year, we can’t wait to welcome children and their families into our library to take part during the summer holidays.

“This year’s theme has given us lots of scope for fun nature-inspired activities combining arts and crafts.

“We look forward to seeing what the children create and to hearing about what they are reading.”
