With a return to League fixtures the Spalding and District Table Tennis League (sponsored by Vital Recruitment) was much busier last week.
Even so, just six matches were completed – along with one of the Guardian Cup semi-finals.
In Division One, Bladerunners made up ground on leaders South Holland with the latter not having a match.
A clean sweep against JDM added five points, with Dave Gibson and Colin Vertigan both winning all their games.
Blades also picked up a further point when Vertigan defeated Nets and Edges’ Allan Lewis to complete that match and additionally one of the unfinished matches against South Holland was misreported as standing at 1-3 when it should have been 2-2.
Nets and Edges faced Outsiders earlier in the evening and Lewis was forced to come back from two down to win.
However, Outsiders’ Keith Davey was in fine form and won the second singles, and then helped them to come from behind in the doubles.
Despite Reece Kerry picking up the fourth game, Davey took the last to secure a 3-2 win, their first in the league this season.
The Netters drop to fourth place as Jokers won their match with Defenders 4-1.
Phil Coote and Guntars Briedes won both their singles but strangely dropped the doubles.
Although level on points with Nets and Edges they move ahead because they have the better of the matches between the two.
In the second Division Skidlids won again, by 3-2 over Team Equinox, to move to 53 points.
Richard Matthews took a double, while Cameron Duncan-Johal and Tony Dorey won their other singles, but Skidlids took the doubles to seal the result.
Mine’s a Pint moved up to second, and a point closer, thanks to a 4-1 win over Castle Sports.
In a match with four games going to a fourth, Jeremy Hitcham picked up another double, while Jonathon Black took one for Castle.
They are now eight behind with three matches in hand and moved ahead of Can’t Move Won’t Move, who lost 3-2 to Young Guns.
Guns’ Daniel Dorey took two and Jon Brown one, but they had to fight for the two of them that went to the fifth and have dropped to five behind the Pinters.
Garry Wilkinson won for the Movers along with the doubles.
Bourne Nightmayors faced MatDuf in the first of the Guardian semis.
They took three of the singles, played to 33, to lead 117-106, but the handicapper found in their favour to the tune of a further nine points to send them through.
At the end of the evening Bourne added a further point to their league total with a singles win in an unfinished match with Team Equinox.
