Birthday inspires couple’s charity walk

To celebrate a 40th birthday a Sutton Bridge couple are to walk from one English coast to another to raise money for charity.

Janice and Tony Cooper will be taking on the 192-mile Coast to Coast Path Walk from the Lake District to Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire.

They will spend 14 days taking on the route mapped out by Alfred Wainwright, staying at bed and breakfasts as they go.

The pair are hoping to raise £2,000 to be split between Cancer Research and equipment for the not for profit Ladybirds pre-school in Pinchbeck where Janice is the manager.

Janice and Tony Cooper are planning to walk the 192-mile Coast to Coast.

She decided she wanted to do this for her 40th birthday eight years ago.

The big birthday is on June 7, though as that’s still term time, the couple are taking on the walk starting on July 28.

The pair will be taking a mini-Ladybird mascot along with them for the journey.

Janice said: “It’s something I always wanted to do.

“As it’s quite an effort and like nothing we’ve ever done before, I thought we’d use it to raise some money.

“I’ve done two Shine Walks which is like a night time marathon, but not one that’s over such a long period.

“My dad has had issues with bladder cancer while Tony’s mum had cervical cancer.

“It’s thanks to Cancer Research that we’re lucky to have them both still with us so we wanted to do something for that.”

Ladybirds would also like get new wooden outdoor furniture.
