Billiards round-up: Johnson on-song as Consti B stun leaders

Table-topping Holbeach A suffered a rare defeat in the Spalding and District Billiards League on Monday night as Consti B edged a close clash 4-3.

Frame wins from Mick Johnson (O170) and Steve Spencer (R100) got the job done for the Spalding side, despite a frame triumph from Colin Dodd (R30).

Johnson starred with a 37 break to help get his side over the line.

Second-placed Crowland B were unable to take advantage of that slip-up as they were also beaten 4-3 at Gosberton B.

Rob Childs (O260) bagged breaks of 54, 41, 39 and 34 for Crowland, but it was frame wins from Shane White (O20) and Marcus Pell (O20) that got Gosberton the points.

Meanwhile, the best break of the week was reeled off by Long Sutton’s Mick Cooper (O90).

His virtuoso display lit up Sutton’s 5-2 victory at Pyramid B, as he reeled off scores of 61, 43 and 38.

Joe Garland (R70) was the other Sutton frame winner.

Elsewhere, two mid-table teams enjoyed maximum wins.

Crowland A picked up a super 7-0 success over basement side Gosberton A to move within three points of fourth place.

Also 7-0 winners were Consti A, who stunned third place Holbeach B and now sit in fifth place.
