Billiards round-up: Holbeach C favourites for title after Gosberton victory

Holbeach C hold a narrow lead going into the final round of Spalding and District Billiards League fixtures this Monday night.

They defeated Gosberton B 5-2 this week, with Ben Harding (R60) and Colin Dodd (R50) securing frame victories.

Dodd, who beat Marcus Pell (O10) in the final frame, made breaks of 29 and 25 for Holbeach.

Shane White (O20), who took the first frame for Gosberton, made a 36 break in vain.

Long-term leaders Crowland A slipped up 5-2 at Pyramid A to lose the initiative at the top and fall one point behind.

John Clapton (R100) and John Twell (R60) were the frame winners for the Bourne side, but Neil Burton (R70) made a 23 break en-route to landing a potentially vital frame for Crowland.

Away from the title race, breaks of 64, 56 and 51 helped Crowland B defeat third-paced Donington 4-3.

Paul Holland (R60) was the other frame winner for them, while Jim Thompson (R50) – who made a 25 break – hit back for Donington.

Also on winning form were Gosberton A, who saw off Pyramid B 5-2.

Andy Shephard (R120) and Norman Gookey (R80) bagged the all-important frame victories.
