Billiards round-up: Childs racks up century break on season’s opening night

Rob Childs wasted little time getting his eye in on the opening night of the new Spalding and District Billiards League season.

The Crowland cue ace, who plays off a league high O250, made a majestic 102 break en-route to defeating Shane White (O20) 200-88 on Monday night.

Childs also hit breaks of 72, 49 and 45 as he steered his Crowland B side to a 5-2 win over Gosberton B.

Elsewhere, two teams made the perfect start to the new campaign with maximum victories.

Pyramid B were 7-0 winners at Long Sutton, with Maurice Phillipson (R60), Martin O’Connor (R20) and Darrell Read (R30) all victorious.

Mick Cooper (O190) did bag breaks of 51, 39, 34 and 22 in defeat for Sutton.

The other 7-0 winners were Holbeach A, who swept Consti B aside.

James Glover (R90), Ben Harding (R50) and Colin Dodd (R40) brought home the bacon for Holbeach, despite breaks of 33 and 30 from Consti’s Jason Rose (R40) and Mick Johnson (O180) respectively.

The closest clash of the week saw Donington edge to a 4-3 success at Pyramid A in Bourne.

Ben Wrigglesworth (R50) and Jim Thompson (R40), the latter making a 21 break, got the job done for Donington despite a big frame triumph from John Clapton (R90).

Meanwhile, Consti A collected a 5-2 victory over Holbeach B to get their season off to a flier. Neil Harvey’s (R70) 30 break was in vain for Holbeach.
