Big friendly wins on the road for Tulips and Tigers

South Holland duo Spalding United and Holbeach United put Saturday’s defeats behind them as they romped to emphatic friendly wins on Tuesday night.

The Tulips, who lost 2-1 at Wisbech Town on Saturday, cruised to a 4-1 victory at UCL Division One newboys Oakham United.

New striker Josh Moreman (3) put the Tulips ahead with his first goal since joining the club, only for the hosts to level through Civil on 14 minutes.

Parity didn’t last long, however, as central defender Spafford (27) and hitman Michael Frew (37) made it 3-1 to Rayment’s side at half time. Both were bagging their maiden goals for the Tulips.

The second half was less exciting, but Tom Waumsley – last season’s leading scorer – rounded off the scoring with his second goal in as many friendly matches on 72 minutes.

Next up for Spalding is a Lincs Senior Trophy clash with rivals Stamford at The Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Friday night (7.45pm).

Meanwhile, Holbeach – who were missing 14 players – still cruised to a 5-0 victory at Horncastle Town.

Gary King got the scoring under way from the penalty spot, before triallist Callum Madigan doubled the Tigers’ advantage.

Another triallist, striker Tom Gosling, grabbed number three, while player/coach Andrew Tidswell then notched his first pre-season effort with a spectacular overhead kick.

Defender Chris Ward rounded off the rout with the fifth, making it a better night at the office for the Tigers following Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Swaffham Town.

Holbeach host King’s Lynn Town in their next friendly at Carter’s Park on Saturday (3pm).
