The first village fair held to raise funds for a new village community centre was a scorching success.
Members of the Deeping St Nicholas Community Trust Committee organised the fair on Saturday (September 1) and raised around £900.
“We couldn’t have asked for better weather, people took advantage of the occasion to chill out and enjoy themselves in the sun,” said the group’s chairman Deborah Croyle, who added that there had been a huge amount of positive feedback.
“The day wasn’t even done when people started asking if we would do it again next year.”
Apart from raising funds, the event was organised to raise awareness of the group and its work towards building a community centre.
“The more people who know about us and can offer their support, the better chances of the village getting the hall it wants.”
The event attracted a range of stalls and visitors enjoyed perfect weather throughout the event.
A number of charities, including the Royal British Legion, WI and Guide Dogs for the Blind all took part with their own fundraising stalls.
There was also live music by local singers Graham James, Simon Lee and duo Charlie and Dllara.
Members of the committee were also on-hand to answer questions about their plans for a centre on St Nicholas Way, where the fete was held.
The £900 raised will go towards kitting out the new hall with items including tables and chairs. There will be a race night at The Old Bridge in November.
