Bates battles in vain

Jason Bates (O160) hit six breaks of 20 or more on his way to a 200-190 win for Bourne SC against Holbeach B’s Neil Harvey (R50) but it was not enough to save his team from a 5-2 defeat on their travels in the Spalding Billiards League.
Dennis Hix (R70) and Chris Chamberlain (R40) chalked up 200-186 and 200-189 wins to keep the bulk of the points at home.
Mick Cooper (O200) was in impressive form for Holbeach A against Consti A with breaks of 41, 23, 23, 27, 22 and 21 but it was in vain as his side went down 7-0 to the early leaders. His match finished 200-141 in favour of Alan Haward (R80), after John Bellerby (R70) had opened with a 200-193 win against Phil Coaten (R70). Stuart Davies (R50) scored a 24 on his way to a 200-121 win against Ben Harding (R30) to round things off.
Pyramid A saw off Gosberton B’s challenge 7-0.
John Clapton (R100) hit a 27 break on his way to a 200-153 win over Des Forbes (R40), Shane White (O50) also struck a 27 but went down to Phil Cooke 200-155 and a clean sweep was ensured when John Twell (R70) scored 23 on his way to a 200-91 win against Marcus Pell (O40).
Donington were 5-2 victors against Consti B, thanks to wins from Nigel Brasier (R70), scoring a 30 break in his 200-122 success against Jason Rose (R10), and Tony Scully (R40), who scored a 38 break against Neil Burton (R60) in a 200-164 triumph.
Steve Spencer (R110) hit back for the visitors with a 200-152 win against Jim Thompson (R60).
Maurice Phillipson (R70), Martin O’Connor (R40) and Darrell Read (R40) were all successful for Pyramid B in their 7-0 win at Gosberton A, beating Malc Dennis (R110) 200-169, Rob Lockett (R90) 200-156 and Andy Shephard (R120) 200-180 respectively.
