Basic groceries shop to open in Holbeach St Marks village hall

Villagers in Holbeach St Marks will be able to buy basic groceries from a new shop being manned by volunteers.

The store, aptly named Essentials, will open in the village hall for the first time on Friday.(March 24)

Nick Worth (pictured), village hall committee chairman, said: “It is something villagers have been asking for for a number of years and the village hall committee felt it was the right time to try to provide this vital service.”

Currently villagers have to travel five miles into Holbeach to reach the nearest shop.

The store will initially be open 3pm to 6pm Mondays and Fridays and 9am to noon Wednesdays.

The committee is keen to add to its six or seven strong team of shop volunteers in order to open it for more hours.
It costs around £5,000 a year to keep the village hall open and it is hoped profits from the shop will help support it.
