Barron and Richards win club’s century title

Spalding Badminton Club celebrated its 100th anniversary with a tournament for club members last weekend.

The first semi final was won by Stuart Walsham and Acer Webb against Arron Tang and Kevin Brand,
The second semi final saw Kevin Barron and Tim Richards defeat Christy Udupuzha and Akhil Nath.
The final was a fitting end to the tournament with a close match between the two pairs with Barron and Richards just beating Walsham and Webb 21-16 in both sets.
The players received their trophy from the tournament organiser Ady Cole.
A club spokesman said: “The event was very well supported with all the players enjoying a hard-fought afternoon of badminton with many close games.
“Watching the final and joining the players afterwards for a very enjoyable buffet and drinks were a number of old players, many of whom had played at the club between the 1970s and 90s.
“Memories of past glories were relived during the evening and with a membership of nearly 150 players we are sure many more memories will fill the next 100 years at the badminton club.”
