Ban for drink driver who injured five in collision with taxi

A man was nearly double the drink drive limit when he collided with a taxi, injuring the five occupants, a court has heard.

Alexandru Radu (30) of Rookery Farm, Holbeach St Johns, admitted driving with excess alcohol when he
appeared before magistrates in Boston.

The court was told that he collided with the taxi at 10.30pm on Saturday, April 13 in St Thomas Road, Spalding and
that five people in the taxi were injured.

He was arrested and provided a breath test analysis of 65 microgrammes of alcohol, the legal limit being
35.

He told the police he had been drinking beer and vodka and that he had failed to stop in time because his
brakes weren’t working.

Radu, who had no previous convictions, was banned from driving for 18 months but was offered the drink
drivers’ rehabilitation course, which will reduce the period of the ban by 18 weeks.

He was also fined £300 and ordered to pay £115 in costs and charges.
