Food manufacturer Bakkavor and Spalding health and wellbeing charity Tonic Health have teamed up again to promote healthy eating.
The second educational workshop for schoolchildren aged from 5 to 12 focused on wraps and other nutritious alternatives to bread.
It followed another successful workshop last month on the importance of fruit and salads for a healthy diet.
These workshops are part of Tonic Health’s GEM Kids (Growing, Eating, Moving) programme. Supported by local government, this 12-week programme provides primary school children with exercise, diet and nutritional advice.
Sam Hetherington (pictured), development chef at Bakkavor, said: “This is a fantastic local initiative which we are delighted to be supporting. It was great to get the children involved in the making and preparation of nutritious foods, and we hope to have helped instil in them at an early age the skills required to lead a healthy lifestyle.”
Michael Morris, chairman of trustees at Tonic Health, said: “It has been a pleasure hosting Sam and having him deliver his sessions to the children. We have received some very positive feedback from the group, teachers and parents.”
