Baking skills showcased at Donington school

Students, staff and parents at Donington’s Thomas Cowley High School have been showcasing their baking skills.

The school held its annual Christmas Bake Off competition with students, staff and parents invited to take part in the event.
There were four categories – Christmas treats, traditional cakes, novelty cakes and gingerbread structures.
Each category contained pupil and adult heats.

The Christmas treat heats were won by year seven pupil Elizabeth Vines and teaching assistant Miss Bannister.
Rachel Gibbs, of year seven, won the traditional cake by baking an igloo with fondant penguins and parent Mrs Trinder won the adult heat with a similar cake.

The novelty cake section winners were Zazanne Magiera, from year seven, year nine student Amber Morgan and Mrs Inglis, a parent, who baked a snowman.

Winner of the gingerbread structure class was year eight pupil Joe Prince for his Eiffel Tower, and Megan Bean, of year ten, who made a sleigh complete with reindeer.

The overall winners were Jess Algar, in the year seven and eight section, and Amber Morgan, for the years nine, ten and 11 category.

The winners were decided by Lincs FM breakfast show DJ Rob Hammond, and Sally Elkington, from the station’s farming and Food Programme.
