Bakers’ Pride at raising plenty of charity dough

Two bakers are among the Pride of South Holland after raising thousands for charity.

Julie Collins and Lisa Atkinson set up Herring Lane Bakers and they’ve raised over £15,000 for numerous charities through selling their wares.
It included helping rise enough funds to purchase three new defibrillators in Pinchbeck.
As well as the baking, the pair have put on numerous events including a Santa’s Grotto at Christmas and the Herring Lane Easter Egg hunt.
“It was during the COVID lockdowns when I was bored I started baking and selling things for charity from outside,” Julie said. “I started off with two cup cakes and a couple of sponges raising money for the Royal British Legion.
“I put on the Pinchbeck Village News how much I’d raised and asked if people would be interested if I did it again and I got a great response.
“It just built from there.
“Lisa was one of those who came every week and saw as it got busier.
“She offered to help me and we’ve never looked back.
“We’ve grown close and put on a number of extra events too.
“It’s something we’ve enjoyed doing.”
Lisa and Julie were given their award at the Pride of South Holland Awards by the guest of honour Simon Weston CBE.
“It was a huge surprise,” continued Lisa. “It’s really nice to be appreciated for what we do.
“It was a really nice event full of happy people.”
The pair don’t know how nominated.
One nomination entry stated: “Julie and Lisa are exemplary residents of Pinchbeck.
“They both give up their time and energy, and, as a team use their baking stills to create an extensive range of homemade produce all made from their own homes.
“Through their selflessness they have raised a considerable amount of money in aid of good causes.
“The girls are amazing and have been really good at helping everyone around them.
“If you are free, they will be there.
“They always go over and above what has been planned and make events so worthwhile.”
