Award delight for Moulton poet

A Moulton poet has been honoured with a prize from the Lincolnshire Live Poets Society.

Valerie Venables was presented with her certificate by poet Michael Blackburn at a special ceremony at Castle Square in Lincoln. He also read out her winning poem.

Mrs Venables said: “I was so pleased to have won, although I did wonder if I was the only entrant, but that wasn’t so by any means.

“After the presentation, the Live Poets Society had a poetry marathon, with other poems from the competition being read out.

“It was a wonderful way to celebrate World Poetry Day.”

The society has produced a book of some of its members’ writings which in being sold in aid of the Lincolnshire Air Ambulance.

The Live Poets Society is considering setting up new branches in Spalding, Boston and Grantham and would like to hear from anyone who is interested in joining.
