Ayscoughfee Gardens aviary roof to be replaced after child fell through

The roof of the aviary at Ayscoughfee Gardens in Spalding is to be replaced after a child was hurt falling through it.

The youngster suffered minor injuries in the incident on April 13.

A South Holland District Council spokesman said: “We have completed our investigation following the incident. We have decided that signage warning people to keep off the aviary roof will remain.
“We have also taken the decision to replace the roof and will be doing so in the first full week in June.”

The cost of the work is £4,890.

The aviary was recently earmarked for refurbishment as part of a Springfields planning cashpot, but the project was dropped when it was discovered that the remaining £57,000 would not also cover the replacement of the nearby pavilion.
