Authors inspire love for reading and writing

Children at Spalding Parish Church of England Day School had the chance to meet three authors as a reward for their efforts to develop their reading for pleasure.

The authors, Helena Pielichaty, Alan Durant and Billy Bob Buttons (Edward Trayer), held workshops, each bringing something different to inspire the children to read and write.

The children also had the opportunity to buy signed copies of each author’s books.

Billy Bob Buttons is the author of nine books to date including Felicity Brady and the Wizard’s Bookshop. During his visit he ran two writing workshops for Key Stage 2 to develop character descriptions and story planning.

Billy Bob Buttons has agreed to be the school’s Patron of Reading, which was promoted most highly by Helena Pielichaty during her visit.

Teacher Kim Bird said: “We are excited about the new opportunities this link will provide to promote reading even further.

“The buzz around reading is at a real high, especially with the positive comments in our recent Ofsted report.

“At Spalding Parish Church of England Day School we are committed to working hard and continuing to develop a love of reading for all.”
