ATHLETICS: Magnificent medal spree for Nene Valley Harriers

Nene Valley Harriers’ Lincolnshire-based track and field stars had a day to remember at Grantham as they won medals galore in the County Championship.

South Holland’s Hughes siblings proved unbeatable with William winning the under-17 100m and 200m sprint double, an achievement matched by sister Lilly in the under-20 events.
Charles Hughes also took golds in the discus and javelin with throws of 23.95m and 11.09m.

The Ellisons were another family to enjoy a golden day, with Ethan winning the under-15 1,500m in a personal best (PB) time of 4.47.3mins.
Megan Ellison then took first place in the under-17 800m, running a lonely race as she took a clear lead early on.

Theo Briston picked up medals of each colour, winning the under-13 100m and finishing as runner-up in the 200m, while also taking long jump bronze.
Again it was a family affair, as Ryley Briston sprinted to gold in the under-15 100m.

Elsewhere, Kate Wright enjoyed a golden sprint double with victories in the under-20 100m and 200m, while Niam Payne won the 1,500m in the same age group with 4.20.3mins.

Fellow Harrier Luke Taylor took gold in the under-17 javelin, with his mother Philippa winning the veterans’ 1,500m. The under-15 100m bronze went to Luke Harrison.

The medals continued to flow with Millie Weller and Niamh Rushton grabbing gold and bronze respectively in the under-13 high jump, with Weller also taking silver in the high jump while Rushton claimed 200m bronze.
Sprinter Emily Davis won silver in the under-15 200m, while there was a bronze for Hana Ray in the 800m.

Another Nene Valley gold was won by Roseanna Clark, who threw 7.75m for first place in the under-15 shot put. Fellow thrower Eleanor Smith won silver in the javelin.

At under-17 level, Jasmine Allen collected long jump gold and 200m bronze.
Team-mate Paula Naylor took bronze in the 800m, while Rosie Fresen leaped to gold in the pole vault.

In the under-20 section Jennifer Smith was a silver medal winner in the 200m and 400m, with Bethany Denial also winning double silver in the high jump and long jump.

More success came in the senior ladies’ categrory as Emily Maltby enjoyed a day to remember with first place in the senior ladies’ 100m and long jump
Not to be outdone, Becki Hall achieved a notable discus and shot double to round off a top day for the Harriers.
