Arts council cash help for South Holland venue

Spalding’s South Holland Centre is set to benefit from extra funding as the Arts Council has included it in the latest round of financial support.

The centre is one of ten which are part of Lincolnshire One Venues (LOV) which has received the £988,766 allocation from the Arts Council over a four year period from March 2018.

The announcement sees a 20 per cent boost in funding to the organisation – the only one in the county to see a rise.

LOV is currently working hard to engage young people in a range of projects across the venues and the extra cash will go towards furthering the aim.

“We have been working a lot with local young people over the past few years, and we are looking forward to developing this further. This extra funding should help us bring the inspiration and enjoyment of the arts to even more people, some of whom would not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in South Holland,” said a spokesman for South Holland District Council on behalf of the centre.

A total of £2.5 million was awarded to Lincolnshire as a whole for the four year funding period and the Lincoln Arts Trust, which looks after LOV, was among those to benefit.

“We are delighted to be increasing our investment in LOV over the next four years,” said Peter Knott, area director for Arts Council England.

“LOV works with people to develop artistic skills and it will be great to see our investment help create a community and social development programme to reach new audiences,” he added.

The LOV network of venues created the Young Peoples Programme with support from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation aimed specifically at the 12-25 age group.

The venues involved with LOV, aside from the South Holland Centre, are: The Collection and Usher Gallery, Lincoln; Guildhall Arts Centre, Grantham, Lincoln Drill Hall; RIverhead Theatre, Louth; National Centre for Craft and Design, Sleaford; Terry O’Toole Theatre, North Hykeham; Stamford Arts Centre and The Embassy Theatre, Skegness.
