Art and design students’ hard work on display at exhibition

An end of year exhibition spelled the culmination of two years of hard work for Boston College’s Art and Design and Photography students.
The exhibition showcased the talent of the students and is an annual event for the college’s Visual Arts and Media departments.
This year, as a result of links developed with Fydell House, Boston, it meant that the work of students was able to be displayed in a professional setting.
The exhibition was held from June 2-4.
Hellen Duffy, lecturer of art and design, said “Anything from fine art, textiles, sculpture, print created by students was exhibited at Fydell House.
“It was a great opportunity for the students to showcase their work in a professional public setting and make links within the business world.”
The exhibition was officially opened by the Mayor of Boston, who gave a speech in which she acknowledged the high quality of the exhibited items and praised students for their work.
The exhibition provided the perfect opportunity for the college’s end of year awards to be presented to students.
The awards take into account their progress and achievements throughout the whole academic year and this year, resulted in Fran Healands receiving the award for “Best In Show”.
Programme area manager for the departments, Tim White, added: “I was overjoyed with the quality and diversity of the work being exhibited this year – it was fantastic and the experience was vital for them as they move forward in their chosen fields.”
