Are you Josh-ing? Yaxley admit to fielding ineligible player against Tigers

Holbeach United could be handed three bonus points after Yaxley admitted to fielding an ineligible player against them over the festive period.

The Cuckoos, who won the Premier Division derby 1-0 at Carter’s Park on December 28, were reported to the United Counties League by the Tigers after it emerged they played under-18 keeper Josh Lynch.

Yaxley’s teamsheet stated that they were fielding under-21 stopper Declan Bonsor in goal after a late amendment made by boss Ian Benjamin.

Lynch’s name was initially written on the teamsheet, but then crossed out and replaced by that of Bonsor.

Yaxley president Jeff Lenton has already admitted the mistake.

He took to social networking site Twitter to say: “We’re holding our hands up and not contesting the Holbeach report. It is just a shame for the players who fought for the win.”

Yaxley look certain to be deducted three points and could also face a financial punishment.

Holbeach have yet to hear back from the league, but are hopeful that they’ll be handed three points in compensation.

Such a judgement would see them right back in the mix at the top of the table.
