The final Tydd Gote Angling Club Wednesday Open of the season was held in atrocious conditions last week as 50mph winds battered the hardy anglers lining the banks of the North Level.
White horses coursing downstream and fluctuating water levels made presentation extremely difficult and that inevitably affected the weights.
Archie Greenwood showed everyone how to do it enticing some quality roach to his pinkie hookbait to eventually put a level 5lb net on the scales.
Chasing him close was John Taylor who alternated between pole and feeder to attract roach and skimmers for his 4lb 8oz, with Pete Emery just a couple of fish behind with 4lb 2oz.
The close season for English rivers, some canals and some stillwaters currently runs from March 15 to June 15 – although the Environment Agency are consulting on future close season arrangements.
More details about the consultation and the proposals can be found on the Environment Agency website.
