Appeal after fire at barn

Police are appealing for information after a fire destroyed a historic barn.

Emergency crews were called to the former Monks House Bulb Company store on Monks House Lane in Spalding shortly before 5pm yesterday (Sunday, March 30).

It’s thought that the building was empty after previously being used by the Spalding Operatic and Dramatic Society (SADOS).

The group had to be moved out after the building was purchased by those behind developments related to the Spalding Western Relief Road.

Lincolnshire Police have today (Monday) issued an appeal.

“We have received information that youths were seen running from the scene,” a spokesman said. “Our investigations are ongoing and we are asking for anyone with mobile phone, CCTV or dashcam footage from the area at any time to get in touch.

“Any detail, no matter how small, could be very useful and help identify who is responsible for this crime.

“If you can help our investigation, please contact PC James Wood via [email protected] quoting incident 295 of March 30 in the subject line.”

Fire crews from Spalding, Crowland, Donington and Kirton attended as well as an aerial ladder platform from Boston.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue urged nearby residents advised to keep doors and windows closed.

“They used breathing apparatus and two hose reels to extinguish the fire which caused significant damage to an outbuilding and its contents,” a fire spokesman said.
