Anne’s zip wire charity challenge

A 79-year-old daredevil is ready to fly off a cliff for charity.

Anne Leek, who will be 80 by the time of the jump, is to take on the Velocity zip wire at Zip World in Wales.
The 1.5km line takes passengers off a mountain above a quarry at speeds of over 100mph.
“My daughter Wendy has been going on holiday in north Wales for the last few years and I always said I wanted to do it,” said Anne, of Holbeach.
“As I’m going with them in June I thought we’d look to give it a go.
“My son Chris suggested, if I was serious, I should do it to raise funds for a charity.
“I thought I’d raise it for Alzheimer’s UK as it’s something my husband Cedric struggles with.
“I’ve never done anything like this before.
“The only thing similar is using a cable car up a mountain in Austria.”
Anne has set up a Just Giving page and is delighted with the reaction to her fundraising so far.
The former dressmaker and post office worker has also received support from the Long Sutton Outreach Carer’s group where she is a member.
“I’m now looking forward to doing the zip wire,” said Anne.
