Angling round-up: Quality roach help Kilby claim victory at Tydd Gote meet, Smith on-song at Holbeach

It was a tough day for most at the latest Tydd Gote AC Sunday club match at Main Road as a cool and blustery east wind – coupled with clear water – meant fish were hard to come by.

On end peg 35 the bream were again conspicuous by their absence, but the ever-reliable Andrew Kilby found one or two quality roach to worm.

That, plus some smaller roach, perch and skimmers on pinkie, saw him put a net of 6lb 5oz on the scales for a comfortable win.

Archie Greenwood was second from peg 17 with 4lb 5oz. He managed a good perch on his worm line, plus roach and skimmers long to pinkie over groundbait.

Andy Toogood was third with 3lb 8oz from peg 31 and there was a tie for fourth with Dave Simmonds (peg 26) and Steve Borrett (peg 28) both ending with 2lb 8oz of roach and skimmers.

Wednesday Open (Black Dyke) results: 1st John Taylor 11lb 12oz; 2nd Pete Emery 7lb 6oz; 3rd= Ian Benton and Jez Rockett 6lb 8oz.

DOUBLING UP: Roger Smith won again.
  • Roger Smith made it back-to-back wins at Holbeach and District Angling Club on Sunday.

In the club match held at Orchard (second), Smith’s sizeable net of 13lb 1.20oz was comfortably enough for a second successive victory.

Jason Thrower came in second with 6lb 10oz, while Alan Thomas was back in third with 3lb 7oz.
