Angling round-up: BSC friends get together again to remember Andrew

The seventh annual fishing match in memory of Andrew Grantham was once again a great success.

The event raises funds for Motor Neurone Disease, of which Andrew passed away from in July 2014.

His friends from BSC fishing club all get together every year for the memorial match, which raised a total of £303 this year.

Richard Bell was the winner of this year’s match at Lake Ross, ahead of Barry Nichols in second and Lewis Smalley in third.

Julie Grantham, who is the late Andrew’s wife, said: “Thanks to Lake Ross for donating all peg fees and to all who were involved in organising the event and raffle.”

  • Dave Simmonds is on a winning streak at the moment with three wins out of five matches following his victory in the Tydd Gote Wednesday Open at the North level at Main Road.

He was on peg 28 and took a 5lb tench from his worm line, a 5lb bream on the feeder and some silvers to just pip Dennis Houghton’s fine bag of quality roach from peg 32, caught on hemp and tares.

John Taylor was third with 11lb 5oz of mostly small fish from peg 19.

At the Sunday club match, Andrew Kilby was on peg 26 and snared a 5lb plus bream close in and topped up with some good roach to seed for 10lb 13oz and the win.

He was pushed all the way by Archie Greenwood on peg 20 who tempted some big roach up to a pound to his pinkie and hemp hook bait for 10lb 1oz and the runner-up spot.

Don Green was on peg 32 and took third place with 5lb of good roach to pinkie and seed with Andy Lawrence in fourth with 3lb 12oz that included a bonus perch of close to a pound from peg 22.

Result: Civil Service Old Boys North Level at Main Road: 1st Nik Pinder 8lb 2oz; 2nd Roland Dean 7lb 6oz; 3nd Steve Borrett 5lb 8oz.

  • Tom Wilson shrugged off unpleasant conditions to win the latest Holbeach and District Angling Club meet at Main Road Bridge.

Amid windy weather, Wilson found a few bream and backed that up with silverfish for a weight of 20lb 5oz.

Lee Gibbon also hooked a bream in his net of 16lb 15oz for second, while Andy Goodger (11lb 14oz) took third.
