Anglers hook £255 in Andrew’s memory

Fishing friends of a Spalding man who died earlier this year have raised £255 for the charity which helped him during his illness.

Andrew Grantham, who had been a member of the British Sugar Fishing Club, was remembered with a fishing match held in his memory by former clubmates.

The Andrew Grantham Memorial Shield was contested by about 18 anglers this year at Westwood Lakes, near Boston, and won by Colin Fisher. It will now become an annual event.

Andrew’s widow Julie said: “Andrew was there to see them do it last year. It is really nice to see it continue to keep raising awareness and funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.”

Andrew died in the summer, aged 50, from motor neurone disease, 18 months after being diagnosed with the condition.

Julie is now keen to continue the work she and Andrew started to raise awareness of the disease and money for the MND Association, which helped them so much following his diagnosis.

She thanked the anglers for their efforts.
