Coun Angela NewtonI am delighted to support the Community Project Award.

I have always tried to be part of, and support initiatives which bring benefits to our area.

Our communities can only thrive if people in those communities join in and support initiatives in their own areas.

Often, some of the things we do seem trivial and, to some, insignificant.

However, whether I just spend an hour or so setting plants for Spalding in Bloom, or weeding flower beds, picking litter and removing cans and bottles, helping Service organisations organise Armed Forces Day, I can see the difference it makes to our town and district.

I am a firm believer that taking Pride, making our surroundings cleaner and more welcoming to local residents and visitors, encourages more people to visit and enjoy South Holland and all we have to offer.

Whether you help with a project at your church, youth group, volunteer drivers, band and/or the many other voluntary organisations we have in South Holland, you and your team are the people we are looking for.

Without the numerous volunteers in South Holland, this would not be such a wonderful place to live.

You might be part of a small or large team. But if you are not doing what you are doing, and if your group was not there to offer support to other people, our district would be a poorer place.

I know there are lots of unsung heroes in South Holland.

Tell us about people and projects you know make a difference.

The ones, who even in a small way, have benefited the community.
